HISTORY - From the Hotel-Gasthof am Schloss in Pilsach

The Hotel-Gasthof am Schloss is located next to Pilsach Castle, which is the namesake of our inn, and stands on the former grounds of the servants' house.

Pilsach Castle is a small water castle in the municipality of Pilsach, north of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate. It is situated on a small island in a pond fed by the Pilsach, a small creek that gave its name to both the castle and the town. The castle is currently privately owned. It is said that Kaspar Hauser, allegedly the Bavarian heir to the throne, was once imprisoned in a dungeon known as the Hauser Hole.

The valley of the Black Laaber stretches over 80 kilometers, with its source and mouth located in the enchanting landscape of the Upper Palatinate Jura. The river originates near Laaber, close to the European watershed, near the town of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate, and flows into the Danube near Sinzing.
